Ortitay, O’Neal’s Offices to Offer Radon Test Kits
9/6/2019
HARRISBURG – As a follow-up to a meeting regarding cancer concerns in the Canon-Mac School District, Reps. Jason Ortitay (R-Washington/Allegheny) and Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) have announced that their offices will be offering free radon test kits through the end of September to any resident in Cecil and North Strabane townships and Canonsburg Borough.

“We wanted to offer these test kits sooner, but in order to obtain accurate results, it is best to test when a home’s windows and doors are closed,” Ortitay said. “As the weather has begun to cool, now is a better time to test. Radon is a naturally occurring, colorless, odorless, radioactive gas that can increase one’s risk to lung cancer over long term exposures.”

“Rep. Ortitay and I take our constituents’ concerns very seriously,” O’Neal said. “We are hopeful these tests will give residents the answers for which they have been looking. If you live in the Canon-Mac School District and are apprehensive about possible radon levels in your home, please call one of our offices.”

All test kits will be supplied by the American Lung Association through a grant with the Department of Environmental Protection, and the results will be mailed to residents. To obtain a test kit, please contact Ortitay’s office at 412-221-5110 or O’Neal’s office at 724-223-4541.
