HARRISBURG — Rep. Jason Ortitay (R-Washington/Allegheny) issued the following statement in response President Joe Biden pausing approval of pending applications for liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports due to environmental concerns:

“Biden’s announcement is being driven by politics and bad policy. Russia is a top exporter of LNG, and in light of the war in Ukraine, other countries have reduced their reliance on Russia. By pausing pending applications, Biden is reducing choices for our allies. In addition, this pullback will increase energy costs in the global market, further hurting people’s pocketbooks both here and abroad. We need stability in the marketplace, not a shutting off of supply. Natural gas is a cleaner fuel, so the Biden administration’s environmental concerns hold no merit. I call on our U.S. congressmen and senators to push back on this misguided announcement which will drive up costs and sacrifice well-paying jobs in my legislative district and throughout western Pennsylvania.”

The 46th Legislative District includes South Fayette Township and McDonald and Oakdale boroughs in Allegheny County. It also encompasses Cecil, Chartiers, Mt. Pleasant and North Strabane (Districts 6,7,8 and 9) townships and Canonsburg, Houston and McDonald boroughs in Washington County.
