BRIDGEVILLE – Rep. Jason Ortitay (R-Washington/Allegheny) today issued the following statement in response to the General Assembly passing legislation (House Bill 854) to extend through Sept. 30, 2021, suspension of regulatory statutes, orders, rules or regulations put in place as part of the COVID-19 disaster declaration:

“The disaster declaration has now been terminated. While there was a lot of negative aspects of COVID-19, the pandemic allowed us to relax some state regulations that showed better ways to allow Pennsylvanians to live their lives. With the disaster declaration now void, these changes would have ceased.

“Under House Bill 854, we will continue to waive regulations so that retired nurses can fill important vacancies, patients can use telemedicine and Pennsylvanians can order cocktails-to-go. By keeping these changes temporarily in place, we will have time to act legislatively to make these changes permanent if the majority agrees.”

The 46th Legislative District includes Collier and South Fayette townships and Bridgeville, Heidelberg, McDonald and Oakdale boroughs in Allegheny County. It also encompasses Canton, Cecil, Mt. Pleasant, Robinson and Smith townships and Burgettstown, McDonald and Midway boroughs in Washington County.
