HARRISBURG – Reps. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) and Jason Ortitay (R-Washington/Allegheny) will be hosting a meeting next month for the Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) to explain its cancer report released last spring focusing on Canon-McMillan School District and Washington County.
The meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m. in the Canon-McMillan High School auditorium, 314 Elm St. Extension.
“While I am disappointed that the Department of Health did not agree to a date sooner, I understand that it wanted to wait until the report’s methodology could be verified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,” O’Neal said. “I’m hopeful this meeting will provide residents with answers to the questions they have had about the report. I continue to request that the National Institutes of Health complete a multi-year, multi-state study of Ewing sarcoma and related cancers so that we gather more data and hopefully find its cause.”
“The scope and method used to create the department’s cancer report continues to raise questions within the community,” Ortitay said. “Residents deserve answers so that they can better understand how conclusions were reached. I look forward to hearing the department more fully explain its incidence review findings.”
