Ortitay Helps Secure Additional State Funding for Former Glass Plant

HARRISBURG — Rep. Jason Ortitay (R-Washington/Allegheny) today announced the release of $2 million in state funds for the redevelopment of the former Brockway Glass Plant in Canton Township.

Ortitay advocated for the funding through the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Project (RACP) program.

“While work on the project has begun, this additional money will assist with completion,” Ortitay said. “Reinventing brownfield sites should be a priority. I’m happy to have been able to assist with bringing this project to fruition.”

The brownfield site is being redeveloped and repurposed by Running Brooke II Associates by replacing functionally obsolete buildings with a 135,000-square-foot-building with loading docks and properly equipped to support various industrial and manufacturing uses. The site has good access to interstates and a railroad spur line.

Funding for the project was authorized by lawmakers in the Capital Budget Project Itemization Act.

The 46th Legislative District includes Collier and South Fayette townships and Bridgeville, Heidelberg, McDonald and Oakdale boroughs in Allegheny County. It also encompasses Canton, Cecil, Mt. Pleasant, Robinson and Smith townships and Burgettstown, McDonald and Midway boroughs in Washington County.
