Ortitay Assists with Securing State Funding for Canton Project

HARRISBURG — Rep. Jason Ortitay (R-Washington/Allegheny) today announced the release of $1.5 million in state funds for the redevelopment of the former Brockway Glass Plant in Canton Township.

Ortitay advocated for the funding through the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Project (RACP) program.

“This project will go a long way in enhancing economic opportunities in Canton Township,” Ortitay said. “The redevelopment of this property into industrial and office spaces allows flexibility for businesses looking to locate or expand in our area and offers a variety of family-sustaining jobs. In addition, it will help clean up an old industrial site, which has been closed for many years. I’m pleased to have been able to assist with bringing needed funding to this project.”

The brownfield site is being redeveloped and repurposed by Running Brooke II Associates by replacing functionally obsolete buildings with a 130,000-square-foot commercial building. The new construction can be used for warehousing and distribution or light manufacturing. The site has good access to interstates and a railroad spur line. The RACP grant will assist with removal of dilapidated metal structures and an old sand silo.

Funding for the project was authorized by lawmakers in the Capital Budget Project Itemization Act.

The 46th Legislative District includes Collier and South Fayette townships and Bridgeville, Heidelberg, McDonald and Oakdale boroughs in Allegheny County. It also encompasses Canton, Cecil, Mt. Pleasant, Robinson and Smith townships and Burgettstown, McDonald and Midway boroughs in Washington County.
