Safe School Grants Awarded, Ortitay Says

HARRISBURG – Rep. Jason Ortitay (R-Washington/Allegheny) today announced almost $220,000 in Safe Schools Grants have been awarded to school districts in the 46th Legislative District.
“The safety of our students is a high priority,” Ortitay said. “When parents send their children to school each day, they should not have to worry about their well-being. These grants will help schools provide the safest learning environment possible and send a message that poor behavior choices will not be tolerated.”
Those receiving grants are:
- Canon-McMillan School District – Safe Schools Equipment Grant – $19,204.
- Intermediate Unit 1, which serves Fayette, Greene and Washington counties – Safe Schools Equipment Grant – $20,000.
- West Allegheny School District – Safe Schools Equipment Grant – $19,942.
- Western Area Career and Technical Center – Safe Schools Equipment Grant – $19,500.
- Burgettstown Area School District – Safe Schools School Police/Resource Officer Grant – $40,000.
- North Strabane Township Police Department, on behalf of the Canon-McMillan School District – Safe Schools School Police/Resource Officer Grant – $60,000.
- Trinity Area School District – Safe Schools School Police/Resource Officer Grant – $40,000.
The 46th Legislative District includes Collier and South Fayette townships and Bridgeville, Heidelberg, McDonald and Oakdale boroughs in Allegheny County. It also encompasses Canton, Cecil, Mt. Pleasant, Robinson and Smith townships and Burgettstown, McDonald and Midway boroughs in Washington County.
