HARRISBURG — Rep. Jason Ortitay (R-Washington/Allegheny) today announced after meeting with PennDOT and Cecil Township a phased improvement to the State Route 980, O’Hare Road and Chartiers Run Road intersection has been planned.

“A number of serious accidents have occurred at this intersection in recent years,” Ortitay said. “I’m hopeful both the short-term and long-term solutions agreed to will reduce accidents and make the intersection safer.”

The first phase of improvement will install a four-way stop sign at the intersection with advanced warning signals. This will occur in the next six to eight weeks.

A second phase will reconfigure the intersection into a roundabout so that traffic will move safer off Chartiers Run and O’Hare roads. Roundabouts increase capacity and allow traffic to flow. For more information about roundabouts, please view this video from PennDOT. No timetable has been set for this second phase.

The 46th Legislative District includes Collier and South Fayette townships and Bridgeville, Heidelberg, McDonald and Oakdale boroughs in Allegheny County. It also encompasses Canton, Cecil, Mt. Pleasant, Robinson and Smith townships and Burgettstown, McDonald and Midway boroughs in Washington County.
