Ortitay Aids Senior Farmers Market Voucher Distribution
6/16/2017
HARRISBURG — Rep. Jason Ortitay (R-Washington/Allegheny) today announced, after months of work with the Allegheny County Area Agency on Aging, he has facilitated an opportunity in Bridgeville for seniors to apply for the 2017 Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program.

“When senior centers were consolidated in late 2015, a void was created in our area for locations where seniors could apply for the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program,” Ortitay said. “It can be very difficult for older people to travel to the remaining senior centers to fill out an application for this very important program. The county has graciously offered to pilot a one-time opportunity for applicants in our area of Allegheny County. I hope many people are able to participate.”

Applications will be accepted at Goodwill Manor, 601 McMillan St., Bridgeville, beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20.

The program provides eligible seniors with four $5 checks to use at any participating farmers market to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables. It is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and requires participants to be 60 or older by Dec. 31 of the program year and have income below 185 percent of the federal poverty guidelines.
