Ortitay, Reschenthaler Announce Grant to Ease Traffic Flow at Ambulatory Care Facility at St. Clair Memorial Hospital
11/14/2017
HARRISBURG – Rep. Jason Ortitay (R-Washington/Allegheny) and Sen. Guy Reschenthaler (R-Allegheny/Washington) have announced St. Clair Hospital has been awarded a $1.25 million grant to help re-align North Wren Drive in Scott Township as part of new construction on its campus.

The funding comes from the Multimodal Transportation Fund under the Commonwealth Financing Agency, which manages the state’s economic stimulus programs. The fund provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure a safe and reliable system of transportation is available in the Commonwealth.

“Health care continues to evolve and the additional facility at St. Clair Hospital will help meet these changing needs,” Ortitay said. “Realignment of North Wren Drive will improve sight distance and pedestrian safety to this area benefiting all. It only makes sense to improve the transportation network as part of this project as the hospital is the primary medical center and employer of many residents of the 46th Legislative District.”

“This transportation grant for the realignment of North Wren Drive will benefit numerous communities in the 37th Senate district by improving traffic flow, reducing congestion, and making the intersection safer,” Reschenthaler said. “These transportation grants are highly competitive and this could only have been achieved by working closely together with Rep. Ortitay and St. Clair Hospital.”

The hospital is planning to construct a new 290,000-square-foot ambulatory care center on its existing campus at Bower Hill Road. To ease traffic to the new facility, North Wren Drive needs to be re-aligned so it will intersect with Bower Hill Road directly opposite Firwood Drive. In addition, a building will be demolished that is in the right-of-way.

The new facility will include a surgical center, clinics and an urgent care center. It is expected to create 90 new jobs.
