HARRISBURG – Rep. Jason Ortitay (R-Washington/Allegheny) has announced he has been assigned to the Education, Environmental Resources and Energy, Gaming Oversight and State Government committees for the 2021-22 Legislative Session.
“I’m pleased to have been reappointed to the Education, Environmental Resources and Energy, and Gaming Oversight committees,” Ortitay said. “In addition, it is an honor to once again serve as the speaker’s appointee to the School Safety and Security Committee. Education has faced challenging times lately due to the pandemic. I am eager to work to ensure children are receiving the lessons they need to be successful and make modifications where necessary. Finally, I’m looking forward to joining the State Government Committee to help assess any changes need to optimize government operations.”
The Education Committee works on state issues involving public and private schools, encompassing pre-K through grade 12 basic education, as well as post-secondary education.
The Environmental Resources and Energy Committee has legislative oversight of more than 45 different environmental and energy-related laws, while the Gaming Oversight Committee oversees legislation dealing with slot machines and table games, as well as the state’s bingo, small games of chance and amusement laws.
The State Government Committee is responsible for reviewing legislation dealing with all aspects of state government, including proposed amendments to the Pennsylvania Constitution, statewide initiatives and referenda, the Public Official and Employee Ethics Act, the Regulatory Review Act, legislative redistricting, Election Code reform, lobbyist disclosure and campaign financing.
The 46th Legislative District includes Collier and South Fayette townships and Bridgeville, Heidelberg, McDonald and Oakdale boroughs in Allegheny County. It also encompasses Canton, Cecil, Mt. Pleasant, Robinson and Smith townships, and Burgettstown, McDonald and Midway boroughs in Washington County.
