– To honor the American flag, Rep. Jason Ortitay (R-Washington/Allegheny) is hosting his third annual flag retirement ceremony on Saturday, July 7.
The ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. at the Cecil American Legion Post 793, 3323 Millers Run Road, Cecil
, and is open to the public. As in the past, the event is conducted in conjunction with Cecil Boy Scout Troop 1369, Cecil Cub Scout Pack, Cecil Girl Scout Troop 51286 and the Cecil American Legion Post 793. The event had been originally scheduled for June, but was postponed due to lightning and rain.
“While it is important to retire U.S. flags properly, the safety of participants comes first,” Ortitay said. “I’m pleased we are able to reschedule this important event quickly. Please note the location has also changed from Cecil Park to the American Legion. If you are unable to attend the new ceremony, flags can be dropped off ahead of time. Thank you to the local Scouting troops and members of the American Legion for their flexibility.”
For those not able to attend, a flag drop-off box has been placed outside the American Legion building.
For more information, call Ortitay’s office at 412-221-5110.
